Life's a beach

I'm back from the visit with my dad at the beach. We had a good time, but there is truly no place like home! Here are some of the highlights from the weekend:

  • Munchkin said his first two sentences on Saturday morning. He said "Here's the ball" and "Where'd it go?"
  • Driving down on Saturday morning I missed my exit & ended up about 20 miles south of where I wanted to be. I'm still not quite sure how this happened since this is the town I grew up in - but somehow it did.
  • My sister and I had a good visit together, but as I said before...spending time with our father is always interesting. Over the course of the visit, he complained to a waiter about the temperature (after he  had requested to sit outside), tried to cover his TV with duct tape so Munchkin wouldn't play with the buttons, complained about his girlfriend, lectured us about our diet & politics, and made us scour Wal-Mart for organic sunscreen. I love my father, but he truly makes me crazy!
  • My dad might drive me nuts, but he sure knows about food! He made an awesome sock-eye salmon on his grill, accompanied by Caeser salad and couscous with fresh fruit for dessert. He made his girlfriend's famous lemon martinis (which are to die for) and then we each had a glass of wine. Delish!
  • Munchkin got hold of the sunscreen and pretended to spray it on his legs and then rub it in. It was pretty funny to watch, but hopefully wearing sunscreen is a habit he'll hold onto.
  • My sister and I barely slept the entire weekend. We slept on a pull-out sleeper sofa (which are never a good idea) and when we weren't tossing & turning to get comfortable, the noise of the A/C woke us every 30 minutes as it kicked on. We froze when it was on and roasted when it was off. Not a good environment for sleeping.
  • On the way home I got my directions mixed up again. I wanted to pull off at an exit for a diaper check, but somehow ended up on another highway going the wrong direction. There wasn't another exit that I could see in visual range, so I stopped in the breakdown lane to check Munch's diaper, then did an illegal U-turn across the grass median to get back on the right road.
We had a great time at the beach. Munchkin had so much fun playing in the sand. He helped his auntie make a sand castle (and then promptly smashed it), made himself King of the Sand Mountain, and enjoyed playing with his "diggers."

We had a great weekend together! The only thing that could have made it better was a good book...but spending it with my sweet boy was everything I could have asked for.
