meals & memories

It's Friday again, and that means it's Show Us Your Life over at Kelly's Korner. This week, it's kitchens!

My kitchen has a rooster/country kitchen 'theme'. Hubby isn't wild about it, but I've been collecting rooster items since before I met him so it's just something he has to live with! Just like I have to live with his golf equipment taking over the rest of the house. And the beer in my closet.

Most of these pictures were taken right after we moved into the house. The house has an open floor plan, and the kitchen flows into the living room, which connects to the dining room.

There are still a lot of things I want to do with the space - paint, granite countertops, curtains. We have all the basics that we need though, so the decor and upgrades will have to wait. I still don't know when we'll get to do these things, but I know all the waiting and dreaming and wanting will make it so much more exciting and special when that time finally comes!

Close-up of fall decorations and yummy-smelling pumpkin pie candle. I try to include small seasonal decor items to change things up throughout the year, and to help us feel more festive.

Another view of the kitchen. The appliances are different colors - we're working toward black, but the house came with the standard builder white. Fortunately, everything was brand new. Unfortunately, they won't need to be replaced for quite a while. Oh well.

What I look at when I'm cooking dinner. The little rooster sign says "Have a Good Day."

My mom got me this sign a few years ago. I know these kind of things were trendy a while back (are they still?), but it's a great reminder of the important things in life while I'm washing the dishes.

This guy sits on top of my fridge and keeps watch over the entire kitchen. He was the one that finally made my hubby finally cry "Enough! No more roosters!"

Do you think I listened?

Well...

French Vintage Dining Room

It's Show Us Your Life at Kelly's Korner! This week, it's dining rooms.

I love my dining room. It's so bright and pretty. I'm a big fan of natural light and sunshine, and I think I've achieved that look pretty well here.

The set is from Rooms to Go. We didn't want to pay full price for it, since we had just spent a crapload of money moving and buying other new furniture, so we found this set used on Craigslist for half the price. It was a great deal, and everything is still practically perfect in condition. I haven't found anything else worthwhile on Craigslist, but this alone makes the site worth it!

This picture is actually about a year old. Now that corner has storage bins overflowing with toys, wagons, and baby paraphernalia.

Sorry for the poor quality of these next few pictures, they were taken on my cell phone since my camera battery is dead.

These are the toys that have taken over that corner. Somehow, it seems like there are more and more there each day. I think it's about time to pack some of them up & store them away.

I'm slowly but surely developing a vintage French theme for this room. These posters are one of my favorite parts of the room.

Really bad picture of a photo of DH playing golf. Doesn't that stance look great?

Wedding gift from a coworker. If you can't read it, they say "I Do" and "Me Too." Funny story - we actually got this set of mugs from two people. One set we use, the other set is on display.

dream a little dream

This week on Show Us Your Life, it's master bedrooms!

Like my living room, it's still a work in progress. There's not much to it, but it's one of my favorite rooms in the house. It gets tons of natural light during the day and it's cozy at night.

Voila. The master bedroom!

Bathroom

Did I mention that DH is brewing beer? And that it's in our closet? And that it could shoot up out of that valve and cover my entire closet in beer. Yeah...

Picture of the planes used for the WWII Hiroshima bomb drop & signatures of the pilots. My stepdad knows them. Cool, huh?
Shadowbox with my wedding bouquet and picture
Corner shelf in my closet. These are my most special stuffed animals - the puffin I've had since I was a baby, the other two were gifts from my sister.
Also in the closet, my wedding shoes and purse.

Show us where you live!

I'm participating in "Show Us Where You Live" over at Kelly's Korner tonight! This week is living rooms.

This is my living room from the kitchen. You can see DH's "man chair" dominates the room. It's perfectly centered in front of the TV and between the surround sound speakers for optimal view pleasure. I don't have an "assigned" seat, and rotate between the rocker and the couch depending on what I'm doing.

The couch is kind of ugly, but it's really comfy! I love snoozing on it in the evenings while DH is watching baseball. You can see my laptop in the bottom corner here, I tried to keep it out of the picture. Guess that didn't work so well.

Another view of DH's man chair. You can also see baby paraphernalia here, and the dog's crate. I tried to hide some of it behind the chair...fail.

More baby paraphernalia. The gate is to protect the TV from the munchkin munchkin from the TV.

This is about the only "adult" part of the room. It's a wedding picture that adds a touch of us to the room, and it's only there because it's behind the Great Gate (mentioned above). Most of the time the picture is face down since Will just knocks it over anyway.

We've been in the house for over 2 years now, but we still haven't done much in the way of painting or decor (mostly due to lack of funds!). I have great plans for it, but unfortunately they'll have to wait. Thanks for looking anyway!
